Fun with your gerbils

Tub playtime
Gerbils are incredibly amusing anyway, but here are some ways to make your life with gerbils even more fun!

Tub playtime

A great way to have fun with your gerbils is tub playtime. Just put a towel down to cover the floor of your bathtub, sit down, and let the gerbils climb on you. No water, of course.

Tricks

You can teach your gerbils tricks, but they don't always like to pay attention, just because it's not necessarily in their nature. They tend to like to explore more, and actually  look into all the dead ends in a maze before they get to the end.

Taking pictures of gerbils can get quite complicated, because the words a 'still gerbil' is almost always an oxymoron. Here are some tips:
  • Use natural light. The flash can mess with the color.
  • Give treats. A gerbil will normally sit still to eat if they want more food.
  • Put the camera in burst mode. You will end up with a lot of crummy pictures, but some lovely ones too.
  • Use a tan or beige background. Both light and dark colored gerbils stand out well on this background.
  • Photograph your gerbils on a windowsill. This lets in good natural light.

Building for your gerbils

You can make a great deal of fun things for your gerbils relatively easily. You can use Elmer's glue, safe woods, and pet store-bought toys to bring joy to your gerbils. Be creative!

You can also build cardboard mazes for your gerbils, if you are going to put the mazes in the gerbils' home, be sure to use only masking tape, as other kinds are unsafe for gerbils.
